We are excited to announce an upcoming webinar titled “The IGNITION Project: Integrating Novel Biomarkers, Genetics, and Data Management to Improve Health and Welfare in Aquaculture.” This event will delve into the innovative methods and objectives of the IGNITION project, aiming to make significant improvements in the health and welfare of aquaculture animals.
This webinar will provide an overview of the project’s goals and methodologies, with a special focus on the novel tools being developed to manage and exploit the vast amounts of data produced. Additionally, we will explore how these new endpoints will be utilized to study the genetic underpinnings of these responses.
Featured Speakers
Ana Teresa Gonçalves – A senior researcher at SPAROS Lda., Ana holds a Master’s degree in Science and a Ph.D. in Applied Marine Biosciences. She leads Work Package 5, focusing on consolidating animal response data to identify biomarkers for improved predictability of fish performance using data mining and machine learning. These biomarkers will be integrated into non-invasive sensors for early detection.
Benjamin Costas – The coordinator of the IGNITION project, Benjamin is a Principal Researcher at CIIMAR with a Master’s in Aquaculture and a Ph.D. in Animal Science. His work centres on nutritional immunology, aiming to develop novel strategies to enhance health, welfare, and disease resistance in aquatic animals through non-invasive biomarkers.
Tim Bean – A senior research scientist at The Roslin Institute, Tim’s group focuses on the biology, disease, and genetics of shellfish. Leading Work Package 6, his team studies the genetic responses to pathogenic challenges observed across the project.
The webinar will be held on July 2nd at 14:00 CET. Registration for the webinar is free, but spaces are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to gain insights into the latest advancements in aquaculture health and welfare.
