PhD Defence: Turning Food Waste and Salty Plants into Sustainable Fuels and Feeds

IGNITION is pleased to share that Stanislav Rudnyckyj, PhD candidate at Aalborg University Esbjerg, will defend his dissertation on 5 September 2025. His research, carried out under the EU-funded FLEXI-GREEN FUELS and IGNITION projects, investigates how two underused resources—organic household waste and salt-tolerant plants (halophytes)—can be converted into green fuels and protein-rich feeds.

By developing concepts for flexible, low-input biorefineries, Stanislav’s work highlights new pathways to support the circular bioeconomy. The research demonstrates the potential to produce ethanol, single-cell protein, and probiotic-rich cultures—contributing to reduced waste, sustainable energy solutions, and functional ingredients for agriculture and industry.

The defence will take place from 13:00 to 16:00 at Aalborg University Esbjerg (Ole Rømers Vej 5, Room C1.104), with online participation also available.
