We are deligthed to announce that Christopher Pimentel and Tonka Buha, PhD researchers within the IGNITION project, were awarded for their outstanding poster presentations at the 23rd Fish Immunology and Vaccination Workshop, hosted by Wageningen University & Research, from April 27 to May 1, 2025.
Christopher received the “Most Eye-Catching Poster” award for his work on the use of halophytes as a nutritional tool to improve fish health and welfare under climate change scenarios. Tonka was recognised with the “Best Poster by a Newcomer” award for her research comparing skin transcriptome dynamics of three aquaculture species under transport-induced acute stress.
Their innovative contributions reflect IGNITION’s commitment to advancing knowledge in fish immunology, disease resilience, and welfare, all key components of a more sustainable aquaculture future.
Alongside these two awardees, fellow IGNITION students André Cunha and Paulo Santos also participated in the event, each presenting research that explores immune-boosting strategies using functional feeds and marine algae in European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax).
The Fish Immunology and Vaccination Workshop is a major international event that brings together experts, students, and stakeholders to discuss the latest advances in aquatic animal health. The recognition of IGNITION researchers’ work at this level highlights the scientific excellence driving the project forward.
